The RAF Association

Using SIP to connect the sites and with a hosted back up, this solution has given the RAFA flexibility to add additional users and individual sites, and also allows for calls to be swiftly re-routed should there be an issue.

The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) is a membership organisation and registered charity. Since 1929 it has recognised that RAF personnel and their immediate families dedicate their lives to their country. It believes that such a sacrifice should not result in suffering, poverty or loneliness.

Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back on his feet, a young child missing their parent away on overseas operations, or a World War II veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, The Association helps all generations of RAF Service personnel and their families, with practical, emotional and financial support.

It has a membership of more 65,000 and a UK-wide network of more than 700 volunteers and volunteer welfare officers who undertake more than 100,000 welfare contacts annually. Help ranges from simply providing conversation and friendship to preparing and submitting application forms for financial assistance.

Dalys have been working with the RAF Association since 2011 when we first installed an NEC phone system.  This SV8100, with multi-level auto-attendant, call-forwarding to voicemail as well as the usual and mobile and to be connected to the existing ISDN30. We also arranged professional user-training to ensure that all staff were conversant with the new system.

Since then we have worked together through many changes, expansion and upgrades to assist with the running of the charity. Due to further growth and more management of the system being required, it was time to upgrade in 2015.  The solution to this was to upgrade to the newer NEC SV9100 which included some more advanced features and could carry the latest MyCalls software.

In 2016 The Association relocated to larger premises, still within the city of Leicester, taking the SV9100 with them.  With consideration to disaster recovery, their system is also backed up using Dalys’ hosted services.  Having the advantage of SIP lines which enable calls to be made over the internet.

Following the successful relocation and back-up solution being deployed at their HQ, Dalys, were contracted to add IP extensions to three of the RAFA additional sites. Using SIP technology, 25 extensions were installed and programmed via the Leicester system.

The Association has a variety of sites across the UK, including area offices, three Wings Break Hotels, and three supported houses, and is going through a programme of reviewing systems at these sites.

As part of the charity’s programme, we are now in the process of surveying further sites as part of the project to ascertain requirements and the best solutions for their different needs.

Using SIP to connect the sites and with a hosted back up, this solution has given the RAFA flexibility to add additional users and individual sites, and also allows for calls to be swiftly re-routed should there be an issue.
