Earthwatch - connecting with the US Daly Systems, the Leicester based telecommunication company, has recently connected the Earthwatch Institute's UK base in Oxford with their US head office in Maynard, near Boston, Massachusetts. Earthwatch have been customers of Daly systems since 2001 originally having NEC DXE systems. When the organisation's American Head Office were considering upgrading their system to an NEC Aspire it made perfect sense for the new system which was needed in the UK office also to be an Aspire. Daly Systems again won the contract to supply and install the system, which ensured that Earthwatch could continue to work with a company that they knew and trusted. The project included the installation of the system with 55 telephone extensions and 5 'soft-phone' licences to allow laptop-connection for field operatives. The two Aspires are linked via a broadband connection so that the both systems work as one for internal calls and transferring calls. At the time of the installation NEC were just about to launch their new Voicemail and unified messaging software, Earthwatch were very pleased to become one of their initial installation sites. Earthwatch is an organisation which supports volunteers working alongside leading researchers in the fields of conservation, sustainable development and education. During 2006, Earthwatch will sponsor more than 155 research projects in 48 countries and 16 US states. The volunteer programme had total of 4,190 80 countries and for all walks of life.
