MP calls on Daly Systems

Leicester West MP Sir Peter Soulsby visited a Leicester telecommunications company on Friday 6 January 2006 to see how Business Link is helping local firms build successful businesses.

Daly Systems Limited (DSL) of Gower Street was set up in 1996 by Peter Daly, who decided to use his experience within the industry to start his own business. Now employing 22 people, it has become one of Leicester’s leading telecommunications companies, supplying NEC and Nortel telephone systems, as well as Microsoft server packages and related services right across the UK.

Its customers come from a wide range of industries, from engineering to recruitment consultants to schools and colleges. Last year, it completed a 300-branch installation scheme for an international car hire company and won a contract with the Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation to supply telephone systems to their 50,000 potential customers.

In 2006, its 10th Anniversary Year, DSL already has plans to develop its branch in Manchester and expand its IT sales and helpdesk operations.

Mr Daly says Business Link has been instrumental in its success.

“Business Link has helped us to move the business forward earlier than would otherwise have been possible,” he says. “The advice and assistance was first class and applying for grants was very straightforward.”

In particular, Business Link has given grants to assist with training in the sales department and the overall company management. It has also helped fund the upgrading of DSL’s IT infrastructure, to support future growth and development of the company.

As well as celebrating the company’s success, Mr Soulsby’s visit will provide an opportunity for DSL to discuss the future development of its business and to raise concerns such as the increasing bureaucracy within the industry and the future of telecoms provision.
